![]() Is this automatic firmware update thing something that you can turn off in the settings somewhere?Įdit: apparently I meant "re-pair" and not "repair.Chromecast with Google TV (HD or 4K versions) Not sure what this firmware update was supposed to even do. I had read that it could be performing a "firmware update", but I legit never told it to do that, and had no problems with it prior. The only other option I had was trying to use this "Google Home" app, which had VERY LIMITED functionality, and didn't allow me to do what I needed to do. My Googling also told me that the "Android TV remote" app had been discontinued. I did find an "Android TV remote" app, but it refused to connect to my Chromecast (and had like 1.8 stars on the store, probably for that reason). The only thing that popped up when I searched "Google TV remote" or "Chromecast" remote was a "Gome" app that wasn't made by Google and could ONLY be used to increase or decrease volume. However, (on an iphone) there was no official remote app to be found. Yeah in my vast amount of Googling to fix the issue, the very first solution I found was to do what you just said: Download the remote app for your phone, "forget" the remote, then repair it. Hopefully this post is helpful for the next person that has this issue.ġ) disconnect the power from the chromecast deviceģ) place remote face down on my desk, pressing all face buttonsĤ) put batteries back in the remote while still holding down (the light turned off!)ĥ) connect power to the chromecast and allow it to rebootĦ) press the sync button on the chromecast deviceħ) press the BACK and HOME buttons on the remote (as instructed by the Chromecast) The Google rep couldn't explained how/why that happened, but I got it to work. I held the BACK and HOME button as instructed, and the Chromecast device found the remote. ![]() I then restarted the Chromecast device, and pressed the sync button again. While the method I found from Google didn't help with that (holding just the home button while replacing the batteries), I was able to do it by placing the remote face down (pressing ALL buttons) while replacing the batteries. I researched how to factory reset the remote. What else can I do?Įdit: I fixed the issue while chatting with a customer service person online. If there are batteries in the remote, that LED is on and it doesn’t work. I tried resyncing the remote by hitting the button on the Chromecast device (with the batteries removed). I tried putting new batteries in the remote. As soon as that second battery goes in the remote, that light turns on and stays on. I tried removing the batteries from the remote for a brief period and putting them back in. After a 5 minute long news video, the remote stopped working 100%. I had been using it for about 20 minutes to watch YouTube videos. So I noticed over the past few days that when I use the remote, the LED will turn on and stay on for a few seconds. I’ve had this thing for a few months now.
